DIGIPAK RESEARCH - Image Inspirations TBC

IDEAS FOR CURRENT IDEA:

LAYERING:
The whole theme of a fan's relationship with artist, need to be careful it doesn't look like cheesy love story. Have some of the dance in the video linked to it.
Potential for viral, every fan could replace themselves with the protagonist.
To have the band offer the fans to do it would seem a bit pompous and vain wouldn't it?

One evidently layered on the more evident figure in the picture in this front cover from Placebo's Sleeping With Ghosts:

Two images layered on a third in this one,

INSPIRED BY THE LYRICS
"The books still burn"
My reading is that there may be some sort of book burning going on in the world of Dog Man Star, like happened in Nazi Germany
Goes with the degradation of Art, how it's been taken away from society and the protagonist has to find it, which she does which includes a VHS cassette. Everyone will think it includes some important Message, but no, it's a French New Wave film. Just a piece of art, nothing more. And nothing less. It's been taken, like Orpheus, from this world. Art has been taken!!!!!
Ooooh another image potentially might be the wide space of library with all the shelves empty, bar maybe an book on advice, one or two factual ones, but no fiction
Can't really recreate that for video, but might be possible for digipak.
OTHERS
The Artist having  their back turned
Something that can be effective and has been used such as in Eurythmics's Peace or David Bowie's Earthling. This is a form of narrative enigma, one of Roland Barthes 5 codes of engaging with audiences. Can be wanted to be avoided by some record labels especially if the artist is still raising their profile, can't be marketed as well, those two were well in their career by then:

The debut album by the now disbanded hip-hop garage band The Streets, discovered them recently while out clubbing.

Some location scouting throughout the city and experimenting with different times at night would be necessary to try and recreate something like this.

Sometimes something such a simple object in close frame can be effective, like a pair of sunglasses here from The Buggles second (and last album) Adventures In Modern Recording

Artwork by Rory Kee

THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAIL:

There a number of small details to watch out with print covers of albums, such as in The Cat Empire's self-titled debut album and Halsey's Badlands (only on the bottom edge though), the subtle touch of rough cut out white.

While I was listening to it, bricolage

FILM STUFF
Have a concert film or a making of the music video as part of the package, or part of the deluxe version.
As part of the branding have pictures of the performers sitting to be interviewed, maybe homage the other documentaries of 1993 and 1999. Should one or more of them be included? Might be a bit too much, and go against the new image.

FOR THE DELUXE VERSION, EXTRA PHOTOGRAPHY

how much of this should be on social media, is it even worth it?
Taking the piss out of BRITpop/Cool Britannia?

LYING IN VARIOUS POSITIONS

Again an album cover I saw, bricolage.
